Google Chrome OS, not to be confused with the Google Chrome browser, is a new Linux based operating system from Google that is designed with work with applications that run on the cloud and not on your computer. Google Chrome Pilot Program
In December last year, Google launched a massive pilot program shipping thousands of Cr-48 Chrome notebooks to early adopters, journalists, students and everyone else giving them an opportunity to experience how it is like to work on a computer that has no desktop software.
Anyone could apply for the Chrome Pilot Program but there was one issue – the program would only accept requests from individuals who had a U.S. shipping address because, possibly due to product certification requirements, Google was not allowed to distribute Chrome notebooks outside of the United States.
Well, the good news is that the restriction is no longer in place and now international users can also apply for the Pilot program. If you had already registered your email address, you’ll be shortly getting this message from the Chrome team else, if you are new, you can apply for the pilot here.
Once selected, you’ll be required to fill another form with your mailing address and a short survey explaining your computer usage like how do you check your email, now many hours per week do you spend online, which app do you use to create documents, etc.
In related news, computer manufacturers including Acer, Sony and Samsung are expected to launch their own Chrome OS notebooks for consumers in the second half of 2011. The notebooks will have Intel or Nvidia processors according to this news report.
